JSNE Relies on Seasoned Investigative Journalists
The key feature of JSNE’s capacity to connect the DougCo facts is its direct reliance on professional journalistic research and investigative reporting available in the public domain at the local, state, and national levels.
Rather than ‘reinventing the wheel,’ JSNE draws on expert subject-matter content from the public domain and focuses on direct local observation and on predicting how dominant outside ideological trends are likely to play out in Douglas County.
Given DougCo’s long history of high-profile conservative activism, today’s public figures are less inhibited about displaying their direct connections to extreme ideologies and aspects of the culture war. In fact, many are proud, even boastful, about their “badges of courage” entanglements with Trump’s election deniers, nativist evangelicals, anti-government militias, and others. They are acutely dependent on benefactor associations with billionaire-funded think tanks and astroturf groups.
These cabalistic behaviors have reinforced DougCo’s outside reputation as too predictable… a “news desert”. Fortunately, the Cabal’s social media is often the most reliable source of information about what’s happening within the Cabal.
Over time, JSNE has developed a select group of esteemed Colorado journalists and media professionals.
These nearby professionals bring extensive local reporting backgrounds and experience-based insights. They have passed muster and consistently produce content relevant to the DougCo story. Fortunately, they welcome input and news leads from the JSNE community.
Increasingly, the best Colorado news and political journalists are affiliated with nimble independent agencies, allowing for a straightforward and uncensored style of journalism. Colorado is widely regarded as a national leader and “hotbed” for independent, high-quality journalism. As of late 2025, the state has a robust ecosystem of nonprofit, journalist-owned, and community-supported newsrooms that have emerged to counter the decline of traditional, hedge-fund-owned corporate newsletters.

Westword
Westword was born back in 1977, when Denver was booming. Thousands of baby boomers were fleeing the coasts, lured to Colorado by the climate, the scenery, and the promise of endlessly flowing Coors. But with the deluge came a dilemma: so many young, active people — and so little that told them what was happening in their increasingly dynamic city. That’s where Westword came in.

The Denver Post
The Denver Post is managed by Digital First Media, under the ownership of Alden Global Capital. The announcement of 30 more layoffs in March 2018, which reduced the paper’s newsroom from 100 to around 70 people, prompted a denunciation of its owners from the editorial board of The Denver Post. The editorial decried Alden Global Capital as “vulture capitalists” who were “strip-mining” the newspaper; it concluded that “Denver deserves a newspaper owner who supports its newsroom.
